Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
REACHING THE WORKING-CLASS TAIWANESE FOR CHRIST
REJOICE WITH US!
We celebrated Amy’s baptism with friends from YuanChang and from the Taipei Nangang Alliance Church. Probably our greatest blessing this term has been seeing Amy’s salvation and continued growth in the Lord. Please join Amy and us in praying for her husband “Goat”, her mother-in-law and her young son to follow the Lord as well. Amy’s desire is to live out her faith in Christ in such a way that her husband will see the change in her and be drawn to her Savior.
Little Abby’s second surgery for removal of the facial growth went well and we are seeing the difference. She will need one to two more surgeries in the next few months. We just learned that her father was fired from his job for taking the day off work to be at the hospital during her surgery. But thankfully he has found another job. Please pray for Abby’s dad to give his heart to Jesus.
COMING UP:
on May 8th our womens’ small group is planning a Mother’s Day Tea for our friends and neighbors. This will be the first time these women will be working together to reach out into our community. Please pray as we prepare this event as a way to show God’s love. Pray for these women (Amy, Margaret, Pauline and Sally) to grow in faith through serving Christ.
April 24-25 and May 29-30 will be our last two weekends working together with a short term team from the Taipei Nangang Alliance Church. Chinh and Mary Dang, language school students, will also join us for the April weekend. Pray that God would use each of us, and give the team strong connections in our community. The Nangang team will continue to minister in YuanChang one weekend a month in 2010 while we are on home assignment in the U.S.
Home Assignment — Yes, it’s that time again. We are now in the process of preparing for our one year home assignment beginning in July. There is much to be done here yet, but at the same time, we are beginning to shift our focus. Pray that we would finish our term well. Pray for our Christian friends to remain strong in Jesus and even multiply in our absence.
Living the call together,
Tim & Penny Iverson
The following section is a brief overview of our work for those who are reading our locator for the first time:
In this south-central region of Taiwan, near the western coast, Christians make up only 0.1% of the population. YuanChang consists of several small villages with a total population of 32,000; yet has only one small Christian congregation. This is one of the least-reached areas of Taiwan; and working-class people, like the majority of those living in our township, have been the hardest to reach with the Gospel. It is a spiritually dark place.
We are seeking to show God’s love in this community through teaching English in the public schools and through our coffee house ministry called THE LIGHTHOUSE.
THANK YOU FOR PRAYING FOR US AND THE PEOPLE OF YUANCHANG TOWNSHIP.
Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer
Thank you for praying specifically for these needs:
PLEASE PRAY for Amy’s husband, Goat – that God’s Spirit would reveal Truth to him.
PRAY for Amy’s mother-in-law, to turn from the darkness of idol worship to put her trust in Jesus.
PRAY for Frank – that he will continue to be drawn to his mother’s God.
Pray for the planning and preparation for the Mother’s Day Tea.
Pray for our weekend ministries in April and May with the Nangang Alliance Church Team.
Pray as we make preparations for our home assignment. We will be living in Minnesota.
Pray for our daughter Julie’s transition to life in the U.S. Julie graduated from high school last year and spent six months in Australia with YWAM. She has been back in Taiwan with us for several weeks and will travel to the U.S. on May 2nd.
Please continue to pray for these on-going needs:
PRAY for Tasha to have faith and courage to follow Christ no matter what the obstacles.
Pray that through our friendship with Abby’s family, her Dad, Mr. Tsai would come to Christ and his wife, Lily – would mature in her walk with God.
For Ming-Ming to attend the Bible study and put her faith in Jesus Christ.
For open doors as we visit student homes.
For our Friday night coffeehouse and the Bible study following.
Pray for Sally’s husband to be moved to full surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. Pray that Sally would daily be strengthened to be the wife God is calling her to be.
Pray for our need for Taiwanese co-workers. Ask God to send out workers in to THIS particular harvest field called YuanChang, Taiwan.
WE NEED A BREAKTHROUGH!
We are thankful to see Amy growing in Christ, but we long to see more! Please pray for a powerful breakthrough in our ministry in YuanChang. Pray especially for men to give their hearts and lives to Christ. Pray also for whole families to turn to Him. We recognize that there is nothing we can do without the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us and at work in the people around us. Please ask God to pour out His Spirit.
THANK YOU FOR PRAYING FOR US AND FOR THE PEOPLE OF TAIWAN.
